Listening: High Hopes by Pink Floyd
One of my former bosses always used to say that nothing gets done without a list. Well, since I haven’t posted in forever (which, I guess I should add to a list), I had to make a list of all the things I wanted to touch on. Consider this the mother of all posts; and if I take this long again, feel free to give me some guff.
The Super Bowl happened, and went as expected. I have to say it was pretty satisfying seeing Big Ben look confused and defeated. I’m tired of him, and the Steelers, for that matter, winning. If any team/town deserved the title, it was Green Bay led by a quarterback who is sure to be the best in the league at one point in his career; if it’s not now (over 300 yards, 3TDs, no INTs against the best defense in football). The fact that they won without Donald Driver and Charles Woodson for most of the game is beyond absurd. Next year, Rodgers will have Jermichael Finley and Ryan Grant healthy 100% healthy. They could be good for a while.
Speaking of good for a while; the Devils have been exactly that. They are 12-2-1 in the last 15 games and climbing out of the basement and into the realm of near-contention. A HUGE week that will determine the rest of the season starts tomorrow against the Hurricanes. If the Devils go 3-0 this week, they are making the playoffs. I am a believer.
Hockey in general has been amazing lately. There have been 3 fights in the past 2 weeks involving goalies, not to mention 2 record-breaking games for penalty minutes, fights, ejections, and suspensions. Old time hockey at its finest all within division rivals. I wouldn’t be a fan of it if it was happening ALL the time, but I think it’s probably settled down for the remainder of the season. The Habs/Bruins game was absolutely amazing, and the Pens/Isles that followed suit was a little more ugly.
Work is work. Been busy non-stop ever since the last post with no signs of slowing down in sight. When it rains it pours I guess. I’ve taken on some responsibilities that are unique to me; which is always a good thing. On top of that, a crew is starting to form between departments of people trying to make friends and have as much fun as possible; a family atmosphere is something I strive for at the office, so it’s good to know that people are in it to make some lasting relationships. Have yet to meet a negative/draining person, but man have I met some characters. Lots of fun all around.
Bonnaroo lineup came out today. Looks like it’s going to be pretty wild; lots of solid acts, but nothing posted yet to make me take a couple floating holidays to go see. Ratatat playing is cool, and it was great to see Arcade Fire jump to the top after their Grammy performance. Speaking of the Grammy’s, has anyone taken it seriously in the past, I don’t know, 10 years? It’s a joke. Seriously. And yet people watch every year. And complain that it’s a joke. Meanwhile I was catching up on Jersey Shore. Irony? I suppose; but at least it’s supposed to be a joke. You love it, you know it.
As much as it entertains me, I can’t very well end on Jersey Shore, so I’ve gotta say that I’m stoked on some shows I’ve got coming up. Feel free to get tickets and let me know if you’re going to any of the following; you’ll have to check it out yourself, or just trust me: Rush in April at MSG, Royksopp in March at Terminal 5, Easy Star All-Stars/John Brown’s Body on 4/20 at Highline Ballroom, and am seriously debating Bamboozle (2 Thrice sets, one’s acoustic I believe; not to mention original Further Seems Forever lineup) at the end of April.
Until next time, take care of yourself, and each other. Thank you so very much for joining me this evening, and good night. Jerry Springer/Bryant Gumble hybrid sign-off right there.
