New Thrones and Live Tones
Listening: The Day I Tried to Live by Soundgarden. Had them on all day.
What's this? TWO posts in one month? I must be motivated by the upcoming week. First, the big news: scored a pair of tickets to Soundgarden's July 13th show at Festival Pier in Philly. To me, that's the show of the year as of now (well... RUSH has it as of now, and that was from the 2nd-to-worst row MSG has to offer; Neil Peart, I think, is not from our world), but I think the Nudedragons at an outdoor venue on the water could have the right atmosphere to absolutely blow my mind clear into 2012.Speaking of the right atmosphere to blow my mind, Wednesday is April 20th; the day I'm going to see Easy Star and JBB; and I guess I should start mentioning Cas Haley too. AWESOME reggae bands on a day like Wednesday could also bid for a high ranking on the show meter. Tickets are still available for only $20 (do not mistake the price and availability for lack of quality). Two days later is Coheed at Starland Ballroom. April is going to end up finishing with HUGE live music numbers.
Not sure if anyone/everyone is watching the new HBO series Game of Thrones, but MAN was the first episode incredible. The opening scene (as well as the opening credits) had me hooked; and after that it dived into a series premiere filled with 6 deaths (1 child murder; 2 decapitations), 3 sex scenes (1 semi-rape, 1 brother/sister twin combo, and 1 midget with a whore), and 2 cases of creepy incest; all on top of some truly moving imagery and storylines for days. I'm glad this show is interesting because I've needed a Sunday show for a while. This should get me through to Entourage's series finale and Boardwalk Empire's next season. I know it's expensive, but HBO really steps it up. Also check out Long Story Short with Colin Quinn. He's always been funny.*
Speaking of thrones, for some people, their cars are their thrones, and mine is on it's way out. After 35 months of being well above the road, the Xterra gets turned in for the third chapter of my driving career. Test drove a Subaru Legacy on Saturday. A quick note about getting a new car: isn't it amazing how people become experts on every car manufacturer available when you tell them what car you're thinking of. It's always interesting to hear everyone's opinion on what you're looking out, and what they think you should be looking at. I heard from "I love Subarus," "I like that you don't see that many of them," "All-wheel drive is nice," to "They're soft," and "They're for lesbians" (but that one was later rescinded when it was realized that A) it's idiotic and B) it was the Outback they were referring to). But the negative wasn't enough to sway and the positive only re-affirmed what I felt from driving it in the rain; probably my next car. It's also great on gas, while also being the best car for the environment that actually uses gas. Feel free to send me arguments either for or against it.
Two in a row. To quote the late Lou Brown, one more and we have what is called a "blogging streak." I'll try to stay on a roll; there's no shortage of motivating factors.
*As I typed that he made fun of blogging. Can't make that stuff up.
